Buzzmeg originally formed in the winter of 1996 with members Chuck, Jeff Anderson, and Sean Collins. The band played as a three piece unit for nearly two years before a few events took place that changed the fate of the band, admittedly for the better.
Throughout 1996 and 1997, Buzzmeg rehearsed relentlessly and put together a live set that was performed in front of audiences from San Bernardino to
Hollywood, California. Based in Ontario, CA., the band continually struggled for recognition as Hollywood turned its nose in the air. The heavy grind of Buzzmeg was not to L.A.'s liking. The fan base, however, grew little by little.
By the fall of 1997, Buzzmeg released a five song demo (untitled) that was distributed locally among close friends and show-goers, and was also sent to numerous record labels and management companies. There were no negative responses, but no one offered a deal either.
Many years of constant struggle wore heavy on the band members and Buzzmeg came to a sudden halt in the summer of 1998. The band stopped all rehearsal and live playing and Chuck moved to the Bay Area.
Jeff, the ultimate driving force of the band, decided that after twelve years of playing and struggling, things were not about to end that easily.
Jeff called Sean and got things going again, this time with a new guitar player. Enter Carlos Bridges into the Buzzmeg family.
Now a fresh three piece, several new songs were written with Jeff on lead vocals, a task that was handled in the past by Chuck. After some cutting and
pasting, the newly re-formed three piece put together a set of songs, enough to handle an opening spot on a live bill. In April of 1999, they did just that. Buzzmeg opened a show at Godfather's in Chino, CA. The band was pleased, the shocked fans were pleased, and things were rolling for Buzzmeg again. In that same month, Chuck moved back to Southern California.
The band graciously accepted Chuck's offer to rejoin the band, and Buzzmeg was now a four piece unit. Immediately, the band began rehearsing in
San Dimas, CA., and the song list grew rapidly. Within a few months, Buzzmeg began playing a barrage of shows in the Ontario area, namely a little bar called Deane's in Rancho Cucamonga. It was this tiny bar that sparked new enthusiasm in the band again. Buzzmeg could not ignore the tremendous response of the fans new and old. Having two guitar players opened new doors creatively, and songs were written and played better than ever before. Jeff was now doing his share of lead vocals and Carlos rounded out the otherwise hollow guitars of the past. Sean's drumming was lifted to new heights by rekindled excitement and brotherhood.
Dozens of shows ensued week after week in 1999 and in late summer, the band recorded its first full-length CD, simply entitled "BUZZMEG". The fan
response to the new material was amazing and everyone anxiously awaited the release of the record in late February of 2000. Buzzmeg also contributed a song called "Above" to a compilation CD in late January of 2000, which was set for release in May of 2000, and will give the band its first national exposure.
In closing, Buzzmeg is a seasoned unit not concerned with the acceptance of the industry. The fans speak for themselves and Buzzmeg is prepared to
their audience as long as the fans want them to. This band is determined to make their mark on their own terms, in their own backyard, and without the stipulations of outside forces that could hinder or even damage the Buzzmeg family and sound. Only Buzzmeg will determine the future and the fate of Buzzmeg.
